Marcus Semien to Undergo Surgery on Wrist Injury, to Be Re-Evaluated in 6 Weeks

Rob GoldbergApr 17, 2017

Oakland Athletics shortstop Marcus Semien will miss some time after fracturing his wrist.

Per Joe Stiglich of NBC Sports, he will be re-evaluated in six weeks after undergoing surgery Tuesday.

Semien is hitting just .171 in 11 games so far in 2017.

He last played on April 14 in a loss to the Houston Astros but underwent an MRI after complaining about a sore wrist.

Considering Semien has missed only 10 total games in the past two seasons, the loss is a significant one.

While the 26-year-old hasn't hit a home run yet this year, he hit 27 last year to rank second in the majors among shortstops. He also ranked second on the team behind Khris Davis with 75 RBI.

Adam Rosales filled in at shortstop last game and could get a lot more playing time with Semien out.
