Terrance Knighton Retiring from NFL at Age 30 After 7 Seasons

Alec NathanApr 12, 2017

Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton announced Wednesday that he's retiring to pursue a career in coaching, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

Knighton, 30, spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. He last played in 2015. After signing Knighton last March, the New England Patriots released him in August, and he was not picked up by a team during the 2016 regular season.

A 2009 third-round pick by the Jaguars out of Temple University, Knighton—commonly referred to as Pot Roast—spent the first four years of his career in Jacksonville.

During that stretch, he racked up 7.5 sacks and 140 total tackles while forcing three fumbles.

Knighton then signed with the Broncos in March 2013, and he helped anchor a run defense that allowed a second-ranked 79.8 yards per game during the 2014 regular season.

A single year in the nation's capital followed two seasons with Denver, but the 2015 campaign proved to be relatively uneventful for the burly run-stuffer. By the time his career came to a close, Knighton had tallied 14 sacks and 245 total tackles.
