WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from April 11

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 11, 2017

Raw and SmackDown were dominated by the Superstar Shake-up, so it was reasonable to expect at least one surprise on 205 Live. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case.

While the main event featured some great action, the rest of the show fell flat, and the crowd let WWE know with its lack of enthusiasm.

The only enjoyable feud is between Neville and Austin Aries, and neither one was on the show for more than 30 seconds.

The cruiserweight division is filled with incredible performers, but WWE is wasting everyone with uneven booking and weak storylines.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's episode of 205 Live.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Mustafa Ali

1 of 3

After a great opening video package highlighting the previous week's main event, The Brian Kendrick came out for the first match of the night against Mustafa Ali.

The action started a little slow while they sized each other up, but whenever Ali is involved, you know things are going to pick up.

Drew Gulak was shown watching from backstage to further his strange storyline with Ali, but a bigger feud took center stage in the closing moments.

Akira Tozawa provided a distraction by ringing the bell to make Kendrick think he had won, allowing Ali to steal the win with his patented inverted 450.

The crowd's lack of participation hurt the way this match came off on television, but it was a solid performance from both men.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • Ali is a lot of fun to watch, but his character hasn't been defined yet. He is a bland babyface, but his exciting brand of offense has earned him a lot of fans.
  • Ali's outfit isn't bad, but it looks like it was designed in one of WWE's video games.
  • Kendrick's handshake reveals so much about his character in the span of a second. His facial expression and body language say: "I am going to enjoy punishing you."
  • Enzo Amore is jealous of how many different animal prints Kendrick can fit on to one pair of tights.
  • Kendrick should have gotten a bigger pop for hiding under the ring.
  • Charles Robinson screaming "Who rang the bell?!" is going to be turned into a meme within 24 hours.

Rich Swann vs. Johnny Ocean

2 of 3

The second bout featured Rich Swann taking on a man by the name of Johnny Ocean. Based on this match, we won't be getting to know him in the future.

Ocean got in a little offense, and Swann made quick work of him with a phoenix splash. The drama after the match is what took up the most time.

Swann claimed he was the one who had been sending Alicia Fox gifts, which brought out Noam Dar to call him a liar. Foxy stood by her man until another present was delivered by a courier.

The box exploded with white powder all over her face and clothes. Dar's look of fear at how Foxy might respond was the best part of the whole segment.

Grade: D+

Notes and Highlights

  • Why does WWE insist on pushing this storyline with Dar and Fox? It hasn't worked since she was dating Cedric Alexander.
  • Did Foxy intentionally make a Billy Madison reference?
  • The powder explosion was clearly supposed to be bigger. Something fell out of the box when she opened it.

TJ Perkins vs. Jack Gallagher

3 of 3

The main event saw TJ Perkins face Gentleman Jack Gallagher. The division's first champion was showing more heel characteristics before the ref even called for the bell.

While a heel turn was needed, it feels rushed. There should be more reason for him to turn than Neville saying nobody respects him.

Gallagher and Perkins are both great technical wrestlers, so everything they did had an extra layer of smoothness to it. Both men used a variety of submissions throughout the match, but there was no shortage of quick action.

Gentleman Jack put up a good fight, but Perkins was able to pull off a victory with a Detonation Kick. For someone who is supposed to be a bad guy, it was a surprisingly clean victory.

Grade: A-

Notes and Highlights

  • The umbrella is going to cap Gallagher's potential. He makes it funny sometimes, but he deserves more than a pure comedy gimmick.
  • Perkins' threat that he would get himself counted out was a classic heel move, but it didn't get as much heat as you would think.
  • Perkins landed awkwardly from a superplex, but he kept going like a champ.
