Orioles' Chris Tillman to Miss All of April with Shoulder Injury

Adam WellsApr 5, 2017

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Chris Tillman is now expected to miss all of April recovering from a shoulder injury.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter announced on Wednesday that Tillman "won't be back until May," per MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli.

Tillman received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right shoulder in December, and he didn't pitch in a game during spring training.

At the start of spring training, Tillman told Ghiroli he was feeling good about where his shoulder was at in the recovery process.

"It's feeling strong, it's feeling better, but you've got to do it right," he said. "I don't want to do it wrong and just say, 'I'm going to go out there. I'm feeling better.' I want to do it the right way and get it behind us. That way, it's not an issue going forward."

The Orioles currently have three starting pitchers listed on their official depth chart, with Tillman and Wade Miley on the disabled list.

Tillman was placed on the disabled list last August with a shoulder issue before returning to make four starts in September to help the Orioles reach the playoffs as a wild card. His ERA after the All-Star break last season was 4.45 with a 1.398 WHIP, compared to a 3.41 ERA in the first half of 2016.
