Alexei Ramirez Ate Krispy Kreme Doughnuts with Mayo as Pregame Meal
When the Chicago Tribune's David Haugh reported about Chicago White Sox prospect Yoan Moncada's love for Twinkies this past offseason, it turned some heads. After all, it's not overly common for a ballplayer (or anyone, for that matter) to eat 200 Twinkies a week.
As it turns out, there's a history of unusual diets on the South Side.
Former White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez's pregame meals were for those with, um, an acquired taste. Or maybe no taste at all?

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
"When we had his debut in Cleveland, his major-league debut, he pre-gamed with two Krispy Kremes with mayonnaise in between," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said, per Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune. "He put them together and enjoyed that for his pregame meal. So we're not unaccustomed to the transition in his diet."
Look, if that's what got Ramirez to the big leagues, more power to him. The shortstop made one All-Star team and won two Silver Slugger awards during his time in Chicago. Oh yeah, he also made more than $40 million in his career—so whatever he did worked.
Good luck to anyone who is brave enough to do a taste test here.
