WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from April 4

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 4, 2017

Neville and Austin Aries fought in the sole cruiserweight match at WrestleMania 33, and they did a great job representing the division.

Aries played the hero perfectly, but it wasn't enough to overcome the villainous champion's onslaught. The King of the Cruiserweights promised a proper WrestleMania celebration on this week's 205 Live.

Considering this episode was taped in front of many of the same fans who attended WWE events over the weekend, there was a bit more excitement than usual.

Aries was given another chance to earn a title shot against Neville in the main event, but there were two other matches to enjoy as well.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of 205 Live.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Akira Tozawa

1 of 4

The first match of the night featured The Brian Kendrick attempting to teach Akira Tozawa another in a long string of lessons.

This has been the perfect first feud for Tozawa because Kendrick has become such a master at dirty tactics and heel psychology.

Both men got in a fair amount of offense throughout the match, but everything Tozawa did had an extra layer of aggression to it after weeks of being played with by Kendrick.

Tozawa stole a page out of Kendrick's playbook by faking a knee injury to lure him in for a roll up. The ending may not have been exciting, but it fit well with the storyline.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights

  • The "10" chants were perfectly timed.
  • Kendrick's tights looked like a pack of Fruit Stripe Gum.
  • Tozawa being so vocal during his matches with his screams and grunts makes him fun to watch.
  • Corey Graves is continuing to prove every week why he is the best full-time commentator WWE has right now. His enthusiasm for what is happening in the ring is infectious.

Rich Swann vs. Oney Lorcan

2 of 4

Another NXT Superstar made his first appearance on the main roster this week when Oney Lorcan debuted against Rich Swann.

The former champion found himself on the receiving end of several hard shots from Lorcan early in the match, which earned the debuting Superstar the support of the crowd. They were given a decent amount of time, which allowed them to put on a solid performance.

In a somewhat surprising outcome, Swann picked up the win with a Phoenix Splash. You would think the guy making his debut would get the victory, but this was likely a one-time appearance for the developmental Superstar.

Swann grabbed a mic after the match and talked about how he has been sending the presents to Alicia Fox and Noam Dar has been lying the whole time.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights

  • It is a little surprising to see Oney Lorcan called up already. It's not like he had a big push in NXT.
  • Swann wearing a tuxedo jacket to the ring was kind of funny.
  • Swann flipping out of a half nelson suplex from the top rope was an awesome spot.

Neville's WrestleMania Celebration

3 of 4

After WWE featured five stars from the United Kingdom Championship tournament to hype the upcoming weekly U.K. weekly series, Neville came out for his celebration.

He bragged about defeating Aries after everyone thought A Double would walk away with the cruiserweight title at WrestleMania.

This was basically just a standard promo. He didn't even have any special pyro or confetti to accompany what was supposed to be a big moment in his career.

Grade: C-

Notes and Highlights

  • Not having Aries come out to confront Neville over how he won is a strange booking decision, even if he was going to come out for the next match anyway.
  • The crowd wasn't giving Neville much to work with here. The WrestleMania high must have worn off right when SmackDown ended.

Jack Gallagher vs. TJ Perkins vs. Mustafa Ali vs. Austin Aries

4 of 4

Neville's next challenger was decided in the main event of the evening when Aries fought TJ Perkins, Jack Gallagher and Mustafa Ali in a Fatal 4-Way match.

The lack of heels in this match proves the division is severely lacking villains at the moment. Tony Nese has barely been featured lately, Drew Gulak has a weird new gimmick and both Kendrick and Dar are wrapped up in other feuds.

All four of these competitors have some exciting moves in their repertoire, so there was plenty to like in this match. After a fun, competitive contest, Aries picked up the win by pinning Perkins.

Everything in this match looked smooth, which isn't easy to do with four men involved. They actually got the crowd to wake up again.

Grade: A

Notes and Highlights

  • Perkins needs to turn heel already. His gimmick is perfectly suited to being an annoying upstart who can actually back up his bragging.
  • WWE missed an opportunity by not having at least one of the U.K. competitors featured earlier in the night compete in this match.
  • Ali might not be the most charismatic Superstar on the mic, but he is incredible in the ring.
