Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg: What's Next for Both Stars After WWE WrestleMania 33?

Kevin BergeApr 3, 2017

Brock Lesnar finally overcame the one man who had always been the blemish on his record when he defeated Goldberg at WWE WrestleMania 33. Another sprint from two veteran big men, Sunday's battle for a mere five minutes saw both hit their highest-impact moves numerous times before Lesnar found a way to overcome the near-inhuman force of Goldberg.

This still leaves many questioning what is next for these two behemoths. Lesnar's status with the company has been made fairly certain as his victory over Goldberg also won Lesnar the WWE Universal Championship. Thus, it is likely that Lesnar will be sticking around the foreseeable future.

Could this be the first time that Lesnar performs on a regular basis as a member of the WWE roster? Usually world champions are expected to defend their title at every major PPV. Since Lesnar is still such an imposing force on the roster, it would be surprising if he lost the championship quickly.

Thus Raw will either have to go a few big events without a champion or Lesnar will have to commit to far more dates than he usually does. This uncovers quite a few exciting possibilities for the future. Could Lesnar battle against Raw's biggest and baddest, including Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and more?

Despite Lesnar having been around since 2012, almost every match against a Raw star would still be a fresh encounter. Technically, The Conqueror has battled both Reigns and Rollins in recent years, but both matches were incomplete due to interference. Meanwhile, few matches are more enticing than seeing what Lesnar could do against a monster of a man like Samoa Joe.

As long as this title change does not end up leading to months of time with no top champion on Raw, this can only be a good scenario for Monday Night Raw.

The topic of Goldberg's future in WWE is far less clear. The former WCW superstar was brought in on a surprise temporary contract that was extended up to WrestleMania. Now his time is up, and it is unlikely he will seek another match with The Beast Incarnate. In fact, he may not even show up on Raw ever again.

Hopefully, there is some more clarity added to Goldberg's situation. In his brief run with WWE, Goldberg has been far better received than during his past run in the company; however, it is also clear that he is never going to be able to wrestle a complete match. His 'Mania match was about as long a fight as he can pull out.

If Goldberg did sign a new contract with WWE, there are enticing matchups, including the heavily teased clash between him and Reigns with the two working similar styles. It is just a question of whether Goldberg has anything more to add to WWE. He turns 50 years old in June and has done more than anyone could have expected, and he would likely be asked to do much more on a new contract.

For a match between two wrestlers who have been quite separate from the roster, this WrestleMania clash has left many questions that could have serious implications in the coming months. Now that these two titans' war has ended, the next step is a complete mystery with many possible exciting steps to come.
