It turns out a tarp can only protect a baseball field so much.

The Colorado Rockies held a 10-4 lead over the San Diego Padres in the top of the ninth inning of Thursday's game at Peoria Sports Complex in Arizona when bees invaded the field.

The home plate umpire and players from both clubs hit the deck to avoid being stung, and play was stopped for roughly 30 seconds until the uninvited guests flew elsewhere.

Colorado went on to defeat San Diego, 10-5.
