Rougned Odor Received 2 Horses as Part of Contract Extension with Texas Rangers

Andrew GouldMar 30, 2017

The Texas Rangers secured Rougned Odor's place in their organization with a six-year, $49.5 million contract extension Thursday. While the money is nice, Texas sweetened the pot with a bizarre stipulation.

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers also gave him two horses:

Last August, Bleacher Report's Scott Miller noted Odor owned four horses, which he raised on a Venezuelan ranch owned by family friend Alex Cabrera.

"Rougie rides every single day," Cabrera told Miller. "He enjoys the ranch all day long in the winter,"

His uncle, Rouglas Odor, called the second baseman a "Venezuelan Cowboy."

Odor—perhaps better known for punching Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista in the face—hit 33 home runs and stole 14 bases last season. Yet he also drew just 19 walks, leading to a subpar .296 on-base percentage.

Unless MLB lets him ride those horses to first base, Odor eventually must exude more plate discipline to fulfill his star upside.
