WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from March 28

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 28, 2017

WrestleMania is coming up on Sunday, but the main roster had one more stop after Raw and SmackDown with this week's episode of 205 Live.

Neville and Austin Aries will have the sole cruiserweight match on Sunday, but after seeing what these two are capable of, they could end up stealing the show.

While the Cruiserweight Championship storyline takes priority this time of year, there is still a whole roster of other talents who deserve attention.

This week's 205 Live featured three singles matches and a confrontation between Neville and Austin Aries to hype their upcoming appearances at WrestleMania 33.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Tuesday's show.

Rich Swann vs. Ariya Daivari

1 of 4

After Neville gave a quick interview backstage, Rich Swann took part in the first match of the night against Ariya Daivari.

Swann has been struggling to stay relevant after losing the title, but he still delivers a good performance every time he steps foot in the ring, so he will always stay in regular rotation.

Daivari is a talented heel, but the crowd never gives him any kind of reaction, which means he will likely be relegated to putting others over.

They worked a physical match which saw The Persian Lion take the fight out of the ring so he could throw Swann into anything with a hard surface.

Daivari showed good aggression in a solid match, but it was obvious Swann was going to pull off a victory as soon as he started taking a lot of punishment.

After the match, Alicia Fox was shown receiving a bottle of perfume, which she proceeded to spray into her mouth for some unknown reason.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights

  • It doesn't seem like Dasha Fuentes is being given a lot to do these days.
  • At least six current Superstars use the phoenix splash on a regular basis. Nobody in WWE was using it five years ago.
  • The difference between 205 Live's two-man booth and every other show having three of more commentators is noticeable. Corey Graves and Tom Phillips have a better flow without having to worry about anyone else talking over them.
  • Daivari has good entrance music. It sounds like something out of a video game, which is not a bad thing.
  • Swann is back to wearing those wings on his trunks. It's surprising they haven't been torn off during a match yet.

Mustafa Ali vs. Brandon Scott

2 of 4

Drew Gulak tried to convince Mustafa Ali not to take so many risks backstage, but Ali left the room before he was done talking.

Ali battled an enhancement talent named Brandon Scott, who actually appeared on an episode of Raw in September against Bo Dallas.

For someone who was guaranteed to lose, Scott got in a surprising amount of offense. However, it didn't take Ali long to put him away with the inverted 450 splash.

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights

  • Is Gulak's new gimmick just going to be him telling the high-flyers not to jump off the top rope? He deserves better.
  • Ali's finisher looks so dangerous. It must have been terrifying the first time he tried to do it.
  • Doesn't the division have enough Superstars to not have to rely on jobbers?

The Brian Kendrick vs. Akira Tozawa

3 of 4

Akira Tozawa hit The Brian Kendrick with a boot to the face and a suicide dive headbutt within the first 15 seconds of the match.

Kendrick has been getting under Tozawa's skin for months, so having the Japanese Superstar show more aggression than usual made the bout entertaining.

Both men tried to finish each other off early, but they countered each other at every turn. Kendrick ended up using an exposed turnbuckle to pick up the win in a competitive match.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • Tozawa's suicide dive headbutt is going to get him or one of his opponents hurt. It looks cool, but it's not worth a concussion.
  • Tozawa either hurt his mouth for real or he was selling the fake injury like a champ.
  • The fans have started doing Tozawa's grunt without him prompting them. That's a good sign.

Austin Aries and Neville Hype WrestleMania 33

4 of 4

Neville came to the ring and talked about how he has been overlooked throughout his career and how he always managed to pick himself up and keep going.

Predictably, Aries came out to offer a rebuttal to all of the things Neville was saying. It was the standard heel vs. babyface segment, but it did its job.

These two men will represent the entire cruiserweight division at the biggest show of the year, even if they are forced to work the pre-show.

Not being on the main card will not stop them from delivering one of the best performances of the pay-per-view.

Once The King of the Cruiserweights had heard enough, he took out his rival with a vicious assault.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • What was the point of interviewing Neville at the top of the show if he was just going to give a promo at the end of the night?
  • Aries is a good hero, but he makes a better villain. After his feud with Neville, he should go back to his cheating ways.
  • Aries winning the title at WrestleMania would be another in a long line of "I never thought I would see that" moments.
