WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE WrestleMania 2017 for Week of Mar. 23
WWE WrestleMania 33 may be only a matter of days away, but it hasn't stopped the rumor mill going into overdrive about what may happen in WWE beyond that show.
There are huge stories breaking all the time given the nature of the WrestleMania season, with speculation about a number of returns in and around Mania weekend.
But this week, there's big news that could impact on the landscape of professional wrestling, and not just WWE.
It's all part of this week's weekly rumor roundup.
The Rock Set to Show Up at WrestleMania 33
1 of 4It's not uncommon for WWE to bring back a glut of former stars for WrestleMania. This year's card proves that perhaps more than other.
And even when there's the opportunity to bring guys in for backstage or non-wrestling segments, WWE normally tries to go all-out in that regard.
And this week, Cageside Seats' Randall Ortman reported that fans can expect to see The Rock at the biggest pay-per-view of the year next weekend.
This is hardly a surprise. The Rock was a surprise returnee last year when he worked a segment with John Cena, and before that, he's made WrestleMania a fairly annual lock for WWE fans to get their fix of The Great One.
This year, the report detailed that The Rock is expected to be in town, even if it is for a backstage segment and nothing else.
Yet it's likely he'll still get one of the biggest pops of the night.
The Latest on Paige
2 of 4It's not been the greatest week for WWE star Paige.
She's embroiled in a huge controversy away from TV, where she hasn't been seen for a number of months.
And as the wrestling world begins to cool down again following the hacking of her personal photos and videos, talk is turning as to what kind of punishment, if any, Paige could face.
Ortman reported that officials involved with WWE had a meeting, as many would have expected, regarding what to do with the situation, and it was decided no action would be taken against Paige.
If that is the case, does it leave the door slightly more open for her to make her return to WWE TV than first thought?
The Hardy Boyz Nearing a WWE Return?
3 of 4Could iconic WWE tag team The Hardy Boyz be inching closer to a return to the company?
Speculation has been rife for a number of months now about if Matt and Jeff are destined to return to where it all began, and reports this week have intensified that situation.
The latest came this week from Pro Wrestling Sheet's Ryan Satin, who reported that "all signs point to an inevitable return."
The report also confirmed that a deal has been officially put on the table for the two brothers to potentially return to the company.
This is exciting news, and who knows, with The Usos winning SmackDown's tag titles this past week, perhaps WWE decided to put the belts on a heel team to set things up for Matt and Jeff going to the blue brand and heading straight back into the title picture?
WWE Interested in Purchasing Ring of Honor?
4 of 4Could WWE's sweep of professional wrestling be set to continue with another huge acquisition?
It's only speculation right now, but a report from Satin at Pro Wrestling Sheet detailed this week that WWE and Sinclair Broadcast Group have held recent discussions in regards to a buyout of Ring of Honor.
If true, this is huge news. The report goes on to mention that talks have been taking place for a couple of months, and it will be "a full takeover if the deal is made official."
Given how Ring of Honor has a number of professional wrestling's hottest talents on its books, it's not hard to see why WWE would want this to happen.
Plus, the report also detailed that ROH's weekly show would continue on the WWE Network.
It's early days, but this looks like being a huge, huge scoop.
