Bayley Beats Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax to Retain Title at WrestleMania 33

Mike ChiariApr 2, 2017

Bayley overcame four top-flight challengers in Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Nia Jax to retain the Raw Women's Championship in a Fatal 4-Way at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday.

Nia and Sasha were the first two eliminated, leaving Bayley and Charlotte.

Bayley incapacitated Charlotte with a back body drop from the top rope. With Charlotte still prone on the mat, Bayley channeled Randy Savage and delivered an elbow drop for the win.

WWE showed Bayley standing victorious in the ring:

Wrestling Inc didn't expect to see her walk out of WrestleMania with the title:

WhatCulture's Adam Pacitti praised Bayley for her work in the ring:

WWE's Cathy Kelly and TJ Perkins thought Charlotte deserved equal praise:

Bayley initially defeated Charlotte for the title at WWE Fastlane, thus ending Flair's undefeated streak and cementing the opportunity to enter The Showcase of Immortals as champion.

The victory didn't come without controversy, though, as Banks created a distraction, which allowed Bayley to hit her finisher on The Queen.

With all three Superstars staking some level of claim to the championship scene, Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon gave Sasha a chance to vie for the gold at WrestleMania if she could defeat Bayley in a match on Raw.

The Boss forced Bayley to tap out in order to make it a Triple Threat, and she was determined to take back the title she had won three times previously:

There were more twists and turns to come with regard to the Women's Championship match, however, as Jax was also given an opportunity to put herself in the mix.

Nia made a statement on Raw by destroying Bayley in a match she lost by disqualification, which impressed Stephanie enough add another wrinkle to the fold.

The commissioner booked a No Disqualification match between Jax and Bayley on Raw with the stipulation that Nia would be added to the WrestleMania match with a win, and that is precisely what happened.

As seen in the following tweet courtesy of WWE's official Twitter account, Jax was supremely confident in her chances of capturing the Raw Women's Championship as part of a Fatal 4-Way:

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the match, Bayley, Charlotte, Sasha and Nia had a lot to live up to in terms of delivering a potential show-stealer.

Last year's Triple Threat between Flair, Banks and Becky Lynch was arguably the match of the night at WrestleMania 32, and another strong bout was needed to continue the positive momentum surrounding WWE's women's revolution.

All four Superstars brought a unique skill set to Sunday's contest, and it made for a highly entertaining affair that added to the burgeoning prestige of the Raw Women's Championship.

Bayley wasn't made to look especially credible in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, but by defeating Charlotte, Sasha and Nia in one match, the stage is now set for her to have a successful and memorable title run.
