Former Texas QB David Ash Cleared for Pro Day 2 Years After Retirement
David Ash will get a second chance at a professional career after receiving medical clearance, per Max Olson of ESPN.
The former Texas quarterback retired from the game two years ago after dealing with issues related to numerous concussions. He will now participate in the school's pro day on March 28.
Ash threw for 4,728 yards and 31 touchdowns over the course of his career with the Longhorns.
The 24-year-old started a handful of games during his freshman season at Texas and became the full-time starter in 2012. He finished his sophomore year with 2,699 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while leading the team to a 9-4 record and a Holiday Bowl victory.
Unfortunately, concussions limited him to just three games in 2013. While he tried to return to the field in 2014, he started feeling symptoms once again and stepped away from the sport after the first game of the season.
"I'm at peace with that. God has given me a peace," Ash said at the time, per Olson. "I have a lot of hope and a lot of belief that there's still awesome days ahead for me."
Although he had a brief, unsuccessful attempt at a baseball career, the quarterback will instead use one more chance to pursue his dream of reaching the NFL.
