WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE WrestleMania 2017 for Week of Mar. 9
WWE WrestleMania 33 is just a matter of weeks away, but plans already appear to be taking shape for what happens in the company beyond the biggest pay-per-view of the year.
SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan dropped a major hint as to his future inside the ring this past week, and an update on Bryan comprises a major part of this week's rumor roundup.
Plus, there's news on SmackDown's women's scene as WrestleMania approaches, as well as a note on one of Raw's biggest stars.
With the card still a way off being confirmed, there is plenty to ponder over.
Here's what's dominating the internet this week when it comes to the latest rumors swirling around WWE.
Could Naomi Still Return for WrestleMania?
1 of 3While plans are moving on at pace for Raw's women's division, things are slightly more hazy for the blue brand and SmackDown.
Fans already know that Bayley will defend against both Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania, with Nia Jax still potentially set to be thrown into the mix, too.
But Randall Ortman at Cageside Seats reported this week that the reason SmackDown's title match is, as yet, unclear is due to the fact that hopes remain that former champion Naomi could return for WrestleMania.
That would be a major boost for the division, especially given how Naomi seemed as popular as ever before she was forced to relinquish the belt last month.
Interestingly, the report also mentioned that Eva Marie could yet force her way into the picture, which would perhaps be the biggest surprise of all.
Roman Reigns Heel Turn Still Not Planned
2 of 3It now looks almost certain that Roman Reigns is set to clash with The Undertaker at WrestleMania this year, at least based on Raw's closing segment this past Monday.
With a guy such as Taker, who has massive popularity among WWE fans, working as Reigns' opponent at Mania, surely it would be the catalyst for a Roman Reigns heel turn?
It seems not.
Ortman reported this week that the plans remain for Reigns to stay as a babyface, with no heel turn planned in the imminent future.
That will no doubt surprise a few WWE fans, but is it really that shocking? WWE is clearly intent on keeping Reigns as one of the top babyfaces, even if fans continue to rebel against The Big Dog.
Could Daniel Bryan Really Wrestle Again?
3 of 3All roads in WWE lead to WrestleMania 33 right now, but beyond that show, there is an interesting carrot being dangled in the faces of WWE fans.
Regular viewers of Talking Smack will have seen The Miz and Daniel Bryan come to blows on multiple occasions, and this week, Bryan appeared to tease a potential return to the ring in the future.
The Miz was mocking Bryan's inability to wrestle following his retirement, to which Bryan responded: "I can't or they won't let me? We'll see in a year-and-a-half, we'll see what happens."
And an interesting note or two reported this week by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc) suggested that Bryan is already eyeing up a return.
Bryan's referral to the year-and-a-half time period is owing to how long is left on his WWE contract. And Meltzer reported that Bryan has a variety of goals in mind, including heading to CMLL at some point.
Will WWE clear him before then? Meltzer also reported that Bryan is weighing up a new ring style that will not be as high-risk, and that could be crucial in his quest to wrestle again.
Either way, you suspect WWE will keep teasing fans that the leader of the Yes! Movement could be wrestling again in the future.
