Their fun was short-lived, however, after The Miz and Maryse intervened and attacked the victors, courtesy of WWE:
Consider WWE Creative Humor a fan of the ongoing feud involving the four stars:
The real-life relationship between Cena and Nikki has long been known about by WWE fans due to their appearances on Total Divas and Total Bellas, but it only recently came to light on WWE programming.
Natalya referenced the relationship on multiple occasions during her rivalry with Nikki, but last week marked the first time Cena and Nikki had a true interaction on SmackDown.
Two weeks ago, Maryse caused Nikki to lose a Falls Count Anywhere match to Nattie by using a steel pipe as retribution for accidentally knocking her over backstage.
Later in the night, Cena eliminated The Miz from a battle royal to determine a No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship, only for Miz to re-enter the ring and toss Cena out.
That led to a Miz TV segment that kicked off last week's show. After Cena and Miz ran each other down verbally, Maryse slapped the leader of the Cenation, which brought Nikki out to even the odds.
As seen in the following tweet, Nikki was thrilled to finally embrace her relationship with Cena in the middle of a WWE ring:
Cena and Nikki were about to do a backstage interview later in the show, but Carmella and Ellsworth interrupted them.
After Nikki criticized the Princess of Staten Island, Ellsworth had some choice words for one of WWE's biggest power couples, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:
Following the back-and-forth, Cena and Nikki challenged Carmella and Ellsworth to a match, which elicited a nervous response from The Man With Two Hands.
Despite his status as a comedic character, Ellsworth has had his fair share of big matches during his time in WWE, including a WWE Championship bout against AJ Styles.
He and Carmella were massive underdogs entering Tuesday's contest against the 16-time world champ and longest-reigning Divas titleholder of all time, however.
That sizable resume gap resulted in Cena and Nikki picking up the victory and gaining momentum for a likely match against The Miz and Maryse at WrestleMania.
