Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax: Winner and Reaction for WWE Fastlane 2017

Mike ChiariMar 5, 2017

Sasha Banks pulled off an upset Sunday night at WWE Fastlane, as she overcame a significant size disadvantage to defeat Nia Jax.

Jax looked to be setting up for the victory with Banks in position for a Samoan drop. Banks, however, wriggled free and rolled Jax up for a pinfall attempt with a bridge. That was enough to keep Jax down for the three-count.

Jax's reaction summed up the feeling for a large chunk of WWE fans, courtesy of WWE Universe:

Bayley was happy to see Banks come out on top:

Uproxx's Brandon Stroud and the Miami Herald's Scott Fishman thought Banks benefited from the victory:

Banks and Jax renewed their rivalry Sunday and did battle in a singles match at a second pay-per-view, as they first faced off at Royal Rumble.

Jax targeted The Boss in the weeks leading up to the Rumble and took advantage of a knee injury Banks suffered at the hands of Charlotte.

Jax even went so far as to attack Banks when she was testing her knee in the ring prior to an episode of Raw, which added even more heat to their rivalry.

Their match at Royal Rumble was a one-sided affair, as Banks was compromised by her knee ailment and was defeated in just over five minutes.

She attempted to get revenge the next night on Raw, but Jax beat her again and continued to build momentum toward a potential future shot at the Raw Women's Championship.

The feud between Banks and Jax was given new life on the go-home episode of Raw prior to Fastlane when Jax and Charlotte defeated Banks and Raw women's champion Bayley in a tag team match.

As seen in the following tweet courtesy of WWE Universe, Jax once again used it as an opportunity to treat The Boss as a rag doll:

Following their loss to Jax and Charlotte, Banks vowed to be in Bayley's corner at Fastlane to prevent The Queen from utilizing any of her trademark dirty tricks.

When Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon heard that plan, however, she put Banks in a match against Jax instead.

While the purpose of the bout was to prevent Banks from involving herself in the title match, it may have acted as a de facto No. 1 contender's bout as well.

Banks is already a multi-time Raw women's champion who has proved that she is capable of performing at the same level as Charlotte.

Jax has yet to taste gold, but she has dominated since getting called up from NXT and has both the skills and pedigree needed to be a champion.

It is possible that both women will be part of a title match at WrestleMania, but The Boss will have the upper hand after finally getting some retribution against Jax at Fastlane.
