Verdasco produced his best tennis in recent memory as he defeated countryman Bautista Agut in a tense battle to reach the last eight.

The left-hander had been on a poor run of form in tournaments, racking up the losses, but he was back to his best as he prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

According to the ATP World Tour, the player was delighted with his win:

"

With him, until the last point you have to have unbelievable focus and fight every point.

That's what I did, and I'm very happy that I went through and I'm in the quarter-finals for the first time here.

Always beating these kind of players gives me confidence. They give you unbelievable rhythm, and it's always good for your game.

"

Seeded Berdych is out after falling to Haase, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in a two-hour battle.

No. 4 seed Gael Monfils was impressive as he beat a persistent Daniel Evans 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

The tournament is there for Murray to claim after Federer's early exit from proceedings.
