5-Star LB Prospect Teradja Mitchell Commits to Ohio State over FSU

The Ohio State Buckeyes landed one of the top talents in the 2018 recruiting class when Teradja Mitchell announced his commitment to the school Friday, according to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren. 

The 5-star outside linebacker ranks 16th overall in the country, and tops at his position, per Scout. 

While listed as an outside linebacker, Mitchell could move to the inside after he arrives at Ohio State, which speaks to his overall defensive proficiency. 

With a 6'2" and 237-pound frame to go along with his 4.69-second 40-yard dash, per Hudl, Mitchell has the size and speed required to excel at the next level. Whereas most players arrive in college needing to work in the weight room before they can see significant time on the field, Mitchell is essentially the finished product from a physical perspective.

Mitchell is also ahead of the curve with regard to his skill level and football intelligence.

He looks wise beyond his years on the field with the way he can read a play unfold and get into the right position. His high on-field IQ helps him adeptly guard against the run and pass. 

When defending the run, he moves quickly to stop the ball-carrier before the runner advances deep into the second level. When dropping back in pass coverage, he isn't afraid to be aggressive and make the quarterback pay for a poor decision.

Mitchell still has a lot of room for improvement, but he's a high-ceiling, high-floor prospect.

He can be an immediate contributor for Ohio State in 2018, and even if he fulfills only 70 to 80 percent of his potential, then he'll be a productive starter for years. Should everything break right for Mitchell, he has all of the tools necessary to become of the best linebackers in college football.
