Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Kenedy and Rumours on Oscar

Rob BlanchetteDec 13, 2016

Former Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly had a huge £60 million offer for Blues midfielder Oscar accepted to bring the Brazilian to China to play for Shanghai SIPG.

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, Oscar has told his team-mates that he is moving to China.

Earlier on Tuesday, Law first reported Villas-Boas' bid for the midfielder, noting the Portuguese manager took the reins at the Chinese Super League club in November and is prepared to raid Stamford Bridge to improve his squad.

Oscar has fallen down the pecking order in west London since the arrival of new boss Antonio Conte and has been the subject of interest from Chinese teams Jiangsu Suning and Guangzhou Evergrande, per the report.

Law also noted that Oscar's departure could see Cesc Fabregas remain at Chelsea.

Fabregas has stayed ahead of Oscar in Conte's plans, and the Italian recently stressed the Spain international's importance to the Blues, as quoted by Law:

"

Cesc is an important player for us.

He played a key match against Manchester City and played very well. In the last match, he came on very well during the game. Tomorrow I have still to decide the starting XI, but Cesc is always a good choice, for me. He is an important player and in the squad of Chelsea. Now this is the reality.

According to the report, Oscar arrived at Chelsea for £25 million in 2012 from Brazilian club Internacional. The midfielder is now said to be "open to the prospect of moving to China."

The 25-year-old has made only five starts in the Premier League this term, per WhoScored.com, failing to hit the back of the net.

Law explained why Chelsea might be keen to do business with their former manager and why Oscar could be tempted:

"

Should the move go through, then this will be the second successive year in which Chelsea have sold one of their Brazilians to China for big money, having recouped over £20m from Jiangsu Suning for Ramires last January.

Ramires managed to double the salary he was paid at Chelsea by moving to China on a £10m-a-year-deal and Oscar can expect a similarly significant increase to his wages.

In other Blues news, starlet Kenedy has had his one-year loan at Watford cancelled by Conte after failing to make the first team on a regular basis.

Uche Amako of the Express reported that the player made just one appearance for the Vicarage Road club during his short spell but failed to convince Hornets manager Walter Mazzarri.

According to Amako, the Blues boss explained the decision:

"

There was this situation because Kennedy wasn't playing. For this reason I think the best decision was to come back, to stay with us, and work with us and to evaluate him this month, and then to take the best decision, to stay with us or go on loan again.

"

Oscar's departure will not surprise fans at Stamford Bridge; he has failed to hit the heights for an extended period and is not the same player who terrorised defences in tandem with Eden Hazard.

The Brazilian was favoured by former manager Jose Mourinho, who preferred the attacker to Juan Mata—who then promptly departed to Manchester United.

Oscar does not have the versatility of Fabregas, a midfielder who can play in a defensive role while also providing goals and assists from deep.

The Chinese Super League continues to build its roster of international talent, and Oscar will be a huge success for the burgeoning Asian competition.
