Le'Veon Bell Sets Steelers' Single-Game Rushing Yards Record

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 12, 2016

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell rushed for 236 yards against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, setting a franchise record for most rushing yards in a single game, per ESPN Stats & Info

Bell's total supplanted Willie Parker—who ran for 223 yards in 2006—for the franchise record, outgaining him by 13 yards. He scored three rushing touchdowns in the contest and added 62 yards receiving on four catches.

The star back finished Sunday with 298 total yards, becoming the first player this season to outgain an opposing team on his own, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via SportsCenter). The Steelers needed every bit of his yardage, as they escaped from Buffalo with just a 27-20 victory.

Sunday's output gives Bell 1,616 total yards from scrimmage so far this season, placing him second in NFL history for most yards from scrimmage in the first 10 games of a season, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info). Jim Brown (1,704 yards) is the only player to have gained more, doing so in 1963.

Bell has now topped 100 yards rushing in each of his last four games. The Pittsburgh running back currently sits fourth in rushing yards on the season despite missing the first three games due to suspension. He only trails Dallas Cowboys rookie back Ezekiel Elliott in rushing yards since returning from suspension in Week 4, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

The Steelers own a half-game advantage over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North as of Monday afternoon. On Monday night, Baltimore will face the New England Patriots in Foxborough with a chance to even up its record with Pittsburgh.

The fierce rivals will square off in a Week 16 matchup that could crown the division winner. Both clubs are playing well at the moment, with Pittsburgh riding a four-game winning streak and Baltimore owning two straight victories heading into Monday night.

Bell—who's been a huge part of Pittsburgh's success this season—will likely have a key role in deciding the outcome of that contest. While he could become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign, it's hard to imagine him playing for anyone but the Steelers next season.
