Manchester United Transfer News: Bruma Talks Revealed, Latest on Pepe Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenDec 10, 2016

Galatasaray winger and reported Manchester United transfer target Bruma has revealed manager Jose Mourinho approached him before a pre-season friendly, while Real Madrid defender Pepe is said to be still weighing his options ahead of the summer.

Speaking to Fanatik (h/t Manchester Evening News' Alex Porter), Bruma said he was delighted when Mourinho showed such a special interest in him, although he also committed himself to his current club: “I feel that an important manager is interested in me is very nice, and it’s a great feeling that he cares about me. I have to do great things at Galatasaray to open the doors. I think it’s early to think about it.”

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fantastic pre-season and is in the middle of a breakout season in the Turkish league, scoring five goals in 13 appearances already.

Bruma is finally making good on the potential he flashed at Sporting CP, drawing comparisons to compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. He moved to Galatasaray in 2013 but failed to make much of an impact, and his talent seemed to be wasting away until last season.

A loan spell with Real Sociedad proved to be exactly what he needed, and he returned to Turkey a different player. Here's a look at some of his highlights:

Blessed with tremendous speed, technical ability and a keen eye for goal, Bruma will remind some of Memphis Depay during his PSV Eindhoven days. The Dutchman hasn't lived up to the lofty expectations since making the move to Old Trafford, and Bruma could be the replacement the Red Devils so desperately need.

As explained by Sport Witness, Bruma's agent has already made it clear the youngster wants to move to the Premier League, and he's yet to sign a contract extension:

Bruma has 18 months left on his current deal, and if Galatasaray get the sense he won't put pen to paper on a new contract, they're likely to cash in now when his value is at its highest point.

Per Bleacher Report's Dean Jones, Tottenham Hotspur will provide some competition:

Bruma's hot stretch could just be a run of good form, but given his obvious talent and long standing as a top talent, there's a good chance he's finally figured things out. Expect clubs to keep watching him to make sure his strong play is the real deal and make a move toward the end of the season.

Elsewhere, AS (h/t Calciomercato.com) report veteran defender Pepe has yet to make a decision on his future, explaining why he still hasn't signed a contract extension with Real Madrid.

The Portugal international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and he's widely expected to continue his career with Los Blancos.

But with Raphael Varane taking on a bigger role alongside Sergio Ramos this season―he started both El Clasico against Barcelona and the UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund―the 33-year-old could opt to leave in search of more consistent playing time, per the report.

Pepe was arguably the best player at UEFA Euro 2016 this summer, winning the tournament with Portugal weeks after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid. He remains one of the world's best defenders, evidenced by some of these highlights:

Pepe has always been a favourite of former Real manager Mourinho, who could use a star centre-back to pair with Eric Bailly and isn't afraid of taking chances on older players, with 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic joining the club this summer.

The defender reportedly also has offers from China, where he could cash in during the twilight of his career.
