Players to Watch
Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers
At 5-7, the San Diego Chargers are only still alive for the postseason in the technical sense. In all likelihood, the Chargers are playing for respect and to develop for the 2017 season.
The same can be said about the 4-8 Carolina Panthers, only they may have already given up on playing for pride. The team was rudderless during last week's embarrassing 40-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Though the Panthers may put up more of a fight this week, their defense is bad enough that we have to like the play of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
The Panthers are currently rated 27th in pass coverage by Pro Football Focus and allow an average of 276.8 yards passing per game, third-most in the NFL.
Rivers is coming off a rough three-game stretch in which he's thrown eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, he should be in store for a bounce-back game here, even if the Chargers ultimately fail to get the win.
David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson is one of the top fantasy backs around for a variety of reasons. He consistently finds the end zone—he's made it there 15 times this season. He is also a monster both on the ground (1,005 yards rushing) and through the air (704 yards receiving). His 64 receptions so far give him even more value in PPR formats.
"[Johnson] should be in the mention for MVP in the league, but our record isn't going to put him in that conversation," Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said, per Kerry Crowley of Scout.com. "But he's playing that way."
While the Miami Dolphins have garnered some attention for the play of their running back, Jay Ajayi, they're also notable for being not so great against the run. As a team, the Dolphins are rated 19th in run defense by Pro Football Focus. Only two teams have given up more than the 130.3 yards per game the Dolphins have surrendered.
Expect Johnson to have another MVP-worthy performance in Week 14.
Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is another guy who may deserve to be in the MVP conversation—at least the fantasy MVP conversation. The former Texas A&M star has already amassed 76 receptions for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns. Only Julio Jones and T.Y. Hilton have more receiving yards.
Jones and Hilton won't be facing the New Orleans Saints' defense this week, though. Evans will. This is why Evans should be an absolute fantasy stud in Week 14.
The Saints are currently rated 28th in pass coverage by Pro Football Focus and allow an average of 276.8 yards per game through the air. Only the Atlanta Falcons allow more.
Cameron Brate, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While we're on the subject of the Buccaneers and their matchup with the Saints defense, we should probably go ahead and mention tight end Cameron Brate. The Harvard product has emerged in a big way for the Buccaneers this season, and he has certainly gained the respect of quarterback Jameis Winston.
"If Cam Brate and Mike Evans don’t be on your Pro Bowl ballots, you got something wrong,” Winston said, per JoeBucsFan.com.
So far, Brate has amassed 528 yards and six touchdowns on 47 receptions. Expect him to add plenty to that total against the Saints.
Kenny Britt, WR, Los Angeles Rams
One player who might not be on your fantasy radar but probably should be is Los Angeles Rams wideout Kenny Britt. The Rams offense has been, shall we say, less than stellar this season. However, Britt has been one of the brightest spots on the unit.
Despite playing for the league's 29th-ranked passing attack (204.8 yards per game), Britt has managed to haul in 56 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns. In last week's loss to the New England Patriots, Britt caught just two passes, but they went for 67 yards and a touchdown.
As we mentioned above, the Falcons allow more passing yards per game than any other team in the league, an average of 280.8. This is the team the Rams will host on Sunday, and Britt could be in store for a big day because of it.
