The Warriors won just two of their five sets but nevertheless came away the winners thanks to the efforts of Fernando Verdasco and Kurumi Nara.

Later in the day, the OUE Singapore Slammers took on the Indian Aces, and the latter won 23-22. The scores were level heading into the final set, which Feliciano Lopez claimed ahead of Nick Kyrgios thanks to a dramatic shootout.

UAE Royals 20-23 Japan Warriors

Verdasco was up first for Japan in the men's singles, where he took on Pablo Cuevas, and an early break put him on the way to taking the set 6-2 courtesy of another break to finish off.

The pair remained on court for the men's doubles, teaming up with Jean-Julien Rojer and Daniel Nestor, respectively.

UAE fought back from a break down to force a shootout, which they promptly won 7-3, before completely turning around the score, as Nestor and Martina Hingis then thrashed Rojer and Jelena Jankovic in the mixed doubles 6-1, handing their side a two-game lead.

However, the Royals came up against the impressive Nara in the women's doubles, and she didn't drop a single game against either Ana Ivanovic or her replacement Hingis:

The result put the Warriors back in control heading into the final set.

Goran Ivanisevic was able to take the match to overtime at 6-4 but still needed to win two more games to level proceedings and three to win—he was unable to win any more, however:

The Royals will have the chance to exact revenge when they face each other once more on Friday, this time at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

OUE Singapore Slammers 22-23 Indian Aces

The Slammers raced into a seven-game lead, as Carlos Moya edged out Mark Philippoussis 6-4 before Kiki Bertens thrashed Kirsten Flipkens 6-1.

Bertens then partnered with Marcelo Melo against Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, but the Aces quickly set about reducing their deficit in style, as they eased to a comfortable bagel.

Melo and Marcos Baghdatis responded well to open up some more breathing room when they took on Lopez and Ivan Dodig in the men's doubles:

However, the Aces pair fought back to claim the set courtesy of a shootout and level proceedings at 17-17 heading into the final set.

Lopez and Kyrgios exchanged early breaks in a hard-fought contest before the Australian grabbed another to put himself in command, per Record's Jose Morgado:

However, he was unable to see out the match, as Lopez broke back to force a shootout.

The pair were equally matched in the shootout until the Spaniard was able to get his nose out in front at the death to hand the Aces the win.

They head into Hyderabad top of the standings, but the pair will face each other again on Friday where the Slammers will hope to close the gap.
