WWE TLC 2016: Bold Predictions for PPV Showcase

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 4, 2016

The annual Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view is usually one of the better shows of the year due to the level of excitement in the specialty matches, and this year's event should be no different.

In an attempt to outdo Raw's history-making Hell in a Cell match with Charlotte and Sasha Banks, the blue brand will feature two women's bouts with hardcore stipulations.

Carmella and Nikki Bella will fight without the risk of count-outs or disqualification, and Becky Lynch will defend the Women's Championship against Alexa Bliss in a tables match.

However, the two contests guaranteed to deliver the most entertainment will feature ladders. The Miz and Dolph Ziggler will collide one more time in a Ladder match for the intercontinental title, and Dean Ambrose will challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship in the main event TLC bout.

Let's take a look at the whole card and attempt to make some accurate predictions.

Kalisto vs. Baron Corbin (Chairs Match)

1 of 6

Kalisto and Baron Corbin have been saddled with the one stipulation nobody wants, a chairs match. Since this stipulation was introduced at the first TLC PPV in 2009, nobody has managed to make it fun.

Unless the two integrate other things from under the ring, they will be limited in what they can do with a simple folding chair.

The good thing about this match is how both Superstars offer different opportunities to use the chairs creatively. Corbin brings the power, while Kalisto brings the agility. Together, they could create something interesting.

As far as the winner goes, either man would benefit from a victory, but it's Corbin who needs it the most. He needs a solid win over a babyface to get his push going again.

Kalisto can always join the cruiserweight division or another tag team, but as a loaner character, Corbin only has so many opportunities. If he doesn't win, there is little hope management will find a way to use him properly in the near future.

Match Prediction: Baron Corbin

Nikki Bella vs. Carmella (No DQ Match)

2 of 6

Having a second feud separate from the women's title scene has given two rookies on the SmackDown roster a chance to rub elbows with a couple big stars in the division.

Carmella did not click with the SmackDown fans the same way she did with the NXT Universe, but the heel turn and feud with Bella have given her an opportunity to distance herself from the big shadows cast by Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.

While it would be great to see Carmella go over in this one, it feels like this is a way to build Bella up into a top contender for the title and a veteran in the blue brand's women's division.

If Carmella does get the win, it might be thanks to some outside interference from a woman she has grown close to in recent weeks, Natalya.

Match Prediction: Nikki Bella

Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss (Tables Match for Women's Championship)

3 of 6

After Banks and Charlotte made history in the first women's Hell in a Cell match, SmackDown needed a way to show its division was just as capable.

While this won't be the first time we have seen the ladies of WWE compete in a tables match, it will be the first time we have seen it involving anyone from the new crop of Superstars. One thing which will be interesting to see is if Bliss or Lynch are actually heavy enough to break any tables.

We all saw what happened when Charlotte tried to put Banks through a table inside the cell, and we even saw difficulty with two women breaking a table when Natalya was forced to hit a splash in her tables bout against Layla and Michelle McCool.

Bliss has been getting better with each passing week, and seeing her get an upset in this bout would be a great sign for her future, but Lynch needs this win to make herself look like a strong champion.

Bliss can always rebound and win the title later, but there is only so much time to build someone into a fighting champion. Then again, having both women crash through a table at the same time to create a draw and extend the feud is always an option.

Match Prediction: Becky Lynch

Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt (Tag Titles)

4 of 6

Watching the story of Heath Slater's rise to stardom was one of the most pleasantly surprising journeys we have seen in years, but WWE failed to capitalize on the hype.

Once Slater and Rhyno won the tag titles, they almost became background players. They appear more in backstage segments than they do in the ring, and they aren't defending their belts nearly as often as The New Day is on Raw.

The storyline with Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton is far more interesting, even if it is hard to see the endgame in the distance.

If the unlikely duo wins the Tag Team Championships, it will be the first time Wyatt has held gold since being called up to the main roster in 2012.

Unless WWE is planning on having The Viper turn on his leader and cost them the match, The Wyatt Family will likely become the new champions.

Match Prediction: Orton and Wyatt win tag titles

The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler (Ladder Match for Intercontinental Championship)

5 of 6

The feud between The Miz and Ziggler goes back a lot further than the start of their current storyline, but this bout is being positioned as a finale of sorts.

Mick Foley has declared if Ziggler fails to defeat The Miz, he will never get another shot at the Intercontinental Championship as long as The Miz is champion.

Not only has this feud led to both Superstars doing some of the best work of their entire careers, but it has helped make the midcard title more interesting than the WWE Championship.

The Miz has been passionate about bringing glory back to the title once held by dozens of legends, and having someone like Daniel Bryan in a position of authority to oppose the arrogant champion has added even more to the storyline.

When it's all said and done, this match could easily steal the show, especially if both men perform as well as they have been over the past few months.

When it comes to the winner, having Maryse at ringside gives The Miz an advantage Ziggler probably won't be able to overcome.

Match Prediction: The Miz

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose (TLC Match for WWE Championship)

6 of 6

The program between Styles and Ambrose has been hot and cold for quite some time, and most of that is due to the involvement of James Ellsworth.

When he first started appearing as a regular part of this feud, the fans rallied behind the unlikely Superstar because he was everything an underdog is supposed to be.

However, his presence soon became more of a nuisance for some members of the WWE Universe, and now his value is being debated daily by fans on social media.

The Phenomenal One may have temporarily taken him out of the equation with a Styles Clash off the steel steps on SmackDown, but there is little doubt he will have some kind of impact on the outcome of this match.

Styles and Ambrose are great wrestlers who are capable of putting on an outstanding TLC match, but how the ending is booked will determine if fans look back on it fondly.

The best option is for Styles to retain the title and move on to a new challenger. His feud with Ambrose has run its course, so WWE may as well wrap it up and start 2017 with a brand-new storyline.

Match Prediction: AJ Styles
