3 Potential College Football Upset Picks For Week 6

BetVega.com Sports Betting NewsOct 7, 2009

With several major upsets already in the books this season, it has been a bumpy ride for some of college football’s top clubs. This Saturday isn’t likely to be much different with a couple of Top 5 squads set to play in hostile environments.

1.) LSU over Florida
Live LSU vs. Florida Odds

This game has all the ingredients for a classic matchup. Each school has won two BCS national championships since 2003. Both enter Saturday’s battle undefeated and ranked in the Top 5. The top-ranked Gators opened as a 9-point favorite in the contest but star quarterback Tim Tebow is still trying to recover from a concussion that he suffered at Kentucky on September 26th. On the other side, the 4th-ranked Tigers are riding high after last week’s dramatic win at Georgia. With the nation’s 17th best scoring defense, LSU will pose a major obstacle for Tebow and the Gators. Another significant factor will be the home crowd in Baton Rouge. The stadium, known as “Death Valley,” is one of the loudest and most intimidating in the nation, especially at night. LSU hasn’t lost a night game at home since 2002. In their last home meeting against the Gators two years ago, LSU rallied from a 24-14 fourth quarter deficit to pull out a 28-24 win.

2.) Mississippi over Alabama
Live Ole Miss vs. Alabama Odds

Another Top 5 SEC squad will be on upset alert this week. The 3rd-ranked Crimson Tide will try to keep their national title hopes on track as a 6.5-point favorite against the 20th-ranked Rebels in Oxford. For Mississippi, this is arguably the biggest game for the program since the glory days of quarterback Archie Manning and head coach Johnny Vaught four decades ago. The home faithful will be fired up to support the underdog Rebels in an electric atmosphere. With star QB Jevan Snead leading the attack, Mississippi has the ability to challenge a strong Alabama defense. On the other side of the ball, the Rebels are sixth in the nation in scoring defense. Mississippi is allowing less than 11 points per game. The squad has plenty of momentum dating back to last season, with a 9-1 record in their last ten contests. The Rebels fell just short of an upset of Alabama last year on the road but the home crowd could be the difference this time around.

3.) UCLA over Oregon
Live UCLA vs. Oregon Odds

In a key PAC-10 battle, the 13th-ranked Ducks will try to gain a road win at the Rose Bowl against the Bruins on Saturday. Oregon is a 6.5-point favorite in the contest after three straight wins. However, all of those victories were at home. The Ducks were shutdown in their opening road game of the season at Boise State. While UCLA fell for the first time last week at Stanford, the squad has shown plenty of fire in 2009. The defense will pose a strong challenge to an explosive Oregon offense. The Bruins are 20th in the nation in total defense and are allowing less than 16 points per game. It should be a charged up atmosphere in Pasadena for UCLA’s conference home opener in front of a nationally televised audience.
