Jaguars Need Yeldon Healthy to Boost Offense
Yeldon originally suffered the injury in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions, but he still played last week in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Yeldon failed to lock down the starting job in Jacksonville last season after the Jags used a second-round pick on him in the 2015 draft. In turn, he's spent most of the current campaign in an equal time share with veteran Chris Ivory.
Injuries have held him back somewhat over his first two years in the NFL. He missed a couple of games as a rookie due to a groin problem and an MCL sprain. While he's remained mostly healthy so far this season, he's now dealt with the ankle issue for a while.
If the latest setback forces Yeldon to be limited or miss game time in the future, it would lead to additional opportunities for Denard Robinson and Corey Grant since Chris Ivory was ruled out for Week 13 due to a hamstring injury.
All told, the Jacksonville offense hasn't operated nearly as effectively as expected this season due to the up-and-down play of quarterback Blake Bortles. Though Yeldon hasn't put up big numbers (89 carries, 318 yards, one touchdown), losing any playmaker is another step in the wrong direction for the unit.
