Top Pick
New England (-11.5) over San Francisco
It's not often that the New England Patriots are coming off of a loss, especially with Tom Brady under center. But that's exactly what's happening to them in Week 11 after a 31-24 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks.
After their first loss this season, against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, Brady's return and a matchup with the Cleveland Browns the following week resulted in a 33-13 win.
Fast forward to Sunday and the Patriots are meeting a struggling opponent in the San Francisco 49ers, who have lost eight games in a row.
The 49ers defense has allowed the second-most points in the NFL, 283, and their losing streak has included six games in which they've given up 30 or more points.
New England is a little banged up heading into Week 11, though. Brady took a low hit from Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor but will play, as he told Jim Gray of Westwood One on Monday (via Mike Reiss of ESPN):
"I'm sore. But I'll be ready to go next week. Just some good treatment like I always get from my buddy Alex [Guerrero], and I'll be good to go. ... It's part of football. Everyone is playing with bumps and bruises this time of year. I'm no different. So I'll get my treatment this week, get out there and practice, and be ready to go.
"
Sure, he missed four games through suspension, but Brady hasn't missed a beat this season. That will spell bad news for the 49ers, as highlighted by the NFL:
While Brady will play, the same can't be said about tight end Rob Gronkowski, who took a hard hit to the chest from Earl Thomas. It was originally reported as a punctured lung, but ESPN's Adam Schefter downgraded it to just a chest injury. However, it will still keep him out of Sunday's game.
Even without Gronkowski, the Patriots have a scoring machine within the offense that's been more of an afterthought due to his location in the backfield. But in nine games, running back LeGarrette Blount is leading the NFL with 12 touchdowns:
Expect the Patriots to put up plenty of points on a mediocre 49ers team and cruise to an easy victory.
Prop Bet to Watch
Jared Goff UNDER 20.5 Completions (Per Odds Shark)
The 2016 NFL draft's No. 1 pick, Jared Goff, will make his first regular-season start on Sunday when he lines up against the Miami Dolphins.
But for those thinking the Cal product will come out and start slinging it as much as possible, think again:
He didn't have the best preseason, which was why Case Keenum got the nod for the starting job in the first place. He completed 22 of 49 attempts (44.9 percent) for 232 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions and three fumbles.
Against a Dolphins defense that's tied for 11th in the league with 22 sacks this year, expect them to dial up the pressure to make Goff as uncomfortable as possible.
Look for the Rams to combat Miami's game plan with Todd Gurley, who could see the ball as many as 30 times on Sunday.
