Palmer Takes 8 Sacks for 1st Time in Lengthy Career
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer suffered through a painful outing in Sunday's 30-20 road loss to the Carolina Panthers, setting a new personal career-high mark by taking a whopping eight sacks, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Making the 167th regular-season appearance and 166th start of his career, the 36-year-old quarterback had previously never been sacked more than seven times—which only happened once, in a 34-22 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in October 2013, per pro-football-reference.com's play index.
The first sack Palmer took was the most harmful because he fumbled the ball away on the opening drive, and Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis then returned it 46 yards for a touchdown.

A pair of short touchdowns from Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart contributed to Arizona's 24-0 first-half deficit, forcing Palmer and the offense to take to the air, which subsequently led to more sacks.
The veteran quarterback did eventually narrow Carolina's lead to 10 points at 30-20, but he then threw an interception with a little over three minutes remaining to kill any hope for a miraculous rally.
In addition to the career-high eight sacks, the fumble and the interception, Palmer did manage 363 passing yards and a trio of touchdowns through the air.
While it wasn't a horrible performance on the whole, Palmer's huge mistakes clearly outweighed his ability to move the ball.
The Cardinals now enter their bye week at a disappointing 3-4-1, but the division-leading Seahawks are at least within striking distance at 4-2-1.
