Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Javier Pastore and Andreas Christensen

Tom SunderlandOct 29, 2016

Chelsea are reportedly among a group of suitors interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Javier Pastore this winter. Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach are hoping to loan Andreas Christensen for another two years.

According to Get French Football News (h/t Metro's Mark Brus), the Blues are ready to make a move for Pastore in the new year, but teams from China and Italy could provide alternative destinations to Stamford Bridge.

The Argentina international has only recently returned from injury and has racked up just six appearances across all competitions this season, but Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is said to be keen on his signature.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson also moved to confirm rumours of Chelsea interest are genuine, although the player is hardly agonising about leaving Parc des Princes as things stand:

Competition for a place in the PSG midfield is high, and with the likes of Marco Verratti, Blaise Matuidi, Thiago Motta and more to compete with, Pastore could be convinced his first-team prospects are better served elsewhere.

That being said, the South American recently celebrated his return to fitness with an Instagram post suggesting his allegiances lie firmly with his current employers—at least for the time being:

Brus outlined PSG are now debating "whether or not to let him leave" if they do receive offers for their midfield star in the winter, although manager Unai Emery may not be keen on any figures leaving his side.

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has talked up the possibility of Christensen extending his stay with the German club when his two-year loan expires next summer, per the London Evening Standard (h/t the Sun and Daily Star's James Benson):

"

I can’t imagine that Chelsea would sell him to us, but maybe we can loan him for another one or two years?

If he was with us for three to four whole years, that would be a great story.

Our pledge is that Andreas feels comfortable with us and always reaches his goals. If Chelsea cannot offer him that, we might have a chance to have him with us even longer.

"

However, Eberl's wishes may be over before they've even begun as Benson cited the London Evening Standard, which reported Blues manager Antonio Conte wants the centre-back at Stamford Bridge next season.

Christensen, 20, has thrived on his Bundesliga loan spell and has been one of the best defenders in the German top flight of late, with Goal's Nizaar Kinsella placing a considerable valuation on his name:

Chelsea captain John Terry looks set to leave the west London outfit when his contract expires next summer, and Christensen could be the natural successor to challenge for a place in central defence.

The Danish youngster's situation resembles that of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who spent three successive seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, although it seems unlikely Gladbach will be as fortunate.
