Arsenal Transfer News: Fresh Mesut Ozil Rumours, Latest on Sergio Aguero

Tom SunderlandOct 28, 2016

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said Mesut Ozil's contract talks are "moving along," although nothing has been agreed with the Gunners talisman just yet. Elsewhere, bookmakers have slashed odds on Sergio Aguero moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's clash against Sunderland, Wenger said of Ozil's negotiations: "[There is] nothing really concrete enough to talk about it. It’s moving along."

Some Gunners fans will take it as a positive that there is any progress at all in looking to extend Ozil's contract, which is poised to expire in the summer of 2018, leaving just over 18 months on his deal.

The talks fall just as the Germany international has undergone a transformation in front of goal this season, developing a taste for finishing chances, as opposed to his usual creative touch, as illustrated by Unibet:

According to Ben Burrows of the Mirror, Ozil is seeking a substantial pay rise on the £140,000-per-week wages he earns in north London and is likely to agree a new deal worth around £200,000 per week.

James Olley of the London Evening Standard recently presented quotes from Wenger, and the Gunners chief emphasised the time is right to extend the former Real Madrid ace's contract:

Along with Ozil, it's reported Arsenal are also hopeful of agreeing new deals with Alexis Sanchez and Hector Bellerin, completing a trio of arguably their three most valued stars who are in need of extensions.

Meanwhile, the London Evening Standard reported bookmaker Ladbrokes has "slashed" odds on Aguero's next club being Arsenal following claims the Argentinian has "slipped down [City boss] Pep Guardiola's pecking order."

Bundesliga pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft didn't agree with that call if true:

Aguero has scored 11 goals in 12 appearances this season, but the South American has played the full 90 minutes in just six of those outings and struggled to maintain fitness for portions of the campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for Manchester City's marvel, but manager Mauricio Pochettino couldn't contain his laughter when questioned about those reports:

Wenger has been forced to convert Sanchez into a centre-forward this season, and a more natural presence up front is needed despite the Chilean adapting in the absence of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck.

The Gunners have been yearning after a world-class figure in attack for some seasons, and the odds suggest an Aguero switch to north London in the future may not be entirely off the cards.
