NFL: Chasing a Dream

Jeff LittleJun 2, 2008

Everyone has a dream—they’re either chasing it or have completed the chase. I’m in the process of chasing my dream as we speak.

I’m a former athlete that has a great love for sports. I love athletic competition and I feel that playing sports will teach children a lot about life and about themselves. I encourage kids to plays sports to keep them occupied, give them something constructive to do, and to keep them out of trouble especially in the inner city.

The thought mentioned above kept me out of trouble when several of my friends got caught up in gangs, drugs, crime or just beaten down by life. I’ve been to over 45 funerals in my lifetime and to say I’ve had enough is an understatement. I’m sick and tired of all of the senseless violence over nothing.

The majority of which can be placed under the heading of Gangs and Drugs. These two entities are plaguing our society, and it will take everyone teaching kids of all ages that this only leads you one of two places: penitentiary or the cemetery.

Sports allowed me to avoid all that madness. I played sports from the early morning to late at night. I loved everything about it and I feel that it can help kids avoid these pitfalls in their life and shape them to deal with peer pressure.

My father, who is no longer with us, wasn’t the biggest football fan. He was a baseball guy and a man who taught me to learn how to play the game the right way—have fun playing and give it your all every time to touch the field.

I’m giving it my all while chasing my dream to be an On-Air Talent/ Sports Reporter. I’m involved in a contest on www.am570radio.com and I am in need of as many votes as I can get to win the contest. The contest is called “Fame & Fortune II” and on the site there is a Vote Now banner to click on to vote. I am in the ‘L’ bracket. I know what I’m talking about. I have a take on everything involving sports and my take makes sense.

One of the many problems are that several of the local junior and senior high schools close down in their off times to include weekends and don’t allow kids to play on the football and soccer fields, baseball diamonds and basket ball courts. We might ask the question why, but the response is even more bizarre.

The normal response you get is to keep the facility nice. I guess that makes more sense budget-wise than allowing the kids to use the facilities for what they were designed for. That’s another story for another day that I will speak on at a later date.

I try to focus on the issues and make points that spark debate but that are still on point. I’m not one of these guys whose sole goal is to piss people off. You know the type that feels that it is now my time to take a shot at every player, coach, team or league I have always had a problem with.

For those who don’t know, blogging is the new wave as far as sports reporting is concerned. The "established guys" who came up the ranks the hard way are highly upset that people who use blogs have a voice and a seat at the table; whereas when they were ascending in their careers they had no voice. This is the epitome of hearing what the fans have to say.

As we all know, some blogs are great and some are all about spitting hate at whomever the target is this week. In my opinion, that is out of control and gives bloggers who do their research and put out good material a bad name.

I’ve read stories on the Bleacher Report that I have enjoyed and some that I haven’t, but I know that I will get someone’s honest opinion and then I can discuss and or debate with the writer on the subject even if we have to agree to disagree. And I love that.

This site gives us writers the opportunity to connect with sports fans all over from all walks of life. I wanted to give the Bleacher Report community a loud and proud shout out for all of you out there and want to encourage you to do what do and put forth the effort to make the stories readable and pertinent like you always do.

This will help the site continue to ascend and it will be because of all of the  writers, the fans that read the articles and the people who run the site for giving us the platform. Based on the voting, I’m fighting off the ropes like in the Hagler vs. Hearns fight and I need a knockout to win. I’m not done and I have a lot left in the tank.

I want you to also think of a man and his moment while chasing a dream. My name is Jeff Little and I would love to have your support on the road to achieving my dream of broadcasting sports and my moment so someday I’ll be in a position to say, “We need to interview this guy for the job I’ve read several of his stories on the Bleacher Report, he’s the guy we need.”

I’m not a politician but I need your vote! To show the power of the Bleacher Report Community and help me land the job.
