Jeremy Langford's ankle injury opened the door for Bell to potentially carve out a role in Chicago's backfield. Instead, he was the team's third option behind Jordan Howard and Ka'Deem Carey. Once Langford returned, Bell would've been pushed even further down the depth chart.
It's premature to say Bell's NFL career may be over, but he'll likely have to wait until the offseason to get another chance. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry in 13 games with the Detroit Lions in 2015. Given both his age and lackluster production, Bell won't be high on many teams' wish lists in the second half of the season.
Once training camp rolls around next year, when teams have additional roster spots to fill, a head coach might be more willing to take a flier on Bell.
