USC DE Jabari Ruffin Suspended Indefinitely: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
The USC Trojans football program announced it suspended senior defensive end Jabari Ruffin for a student-conduct issue Sunday, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN.com.
"I don't have a crystal ball about when he could return," head coach Clay Helton said, per Bonagura.
Ruffin has two tackles on the season, one of them for a loss.
The 6'3", 245-pound senior has spent time at linebacker and defensive end in his career, mostly as a reserve.
Ruffin made headlines in the first week of the season, when he was ejected for stomping on Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick's groin after a kickoff return. He was suspended for the first half of the next game and had to write an apology letter, per Bonagura.
"He understands his conduct is unbecoming of a Trojan and there will be zero tolerance moving forward," Helton said in September, per Bonagura. "Jabari is a good kid who made a poor emotional decision. I am sorry as the head coach, [and] he is also. I know that it will not happen again."
While the team has not revealed what contributed to his latest suspension, Ruffin's extracurricular activities have exceeded his value on the field.
Ruffin, a 4-star prospect out of high school, was the No. 13-ranked defensive end in the 2012 recruiting class, per Scout.com.
