NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase Grid 2016: Standings, Schedule After Alabama 500

David McCrackenOct 23, 2016

Blown up engines to mistakes at pit stops, the Alabama 500 had it all as Joey Logano edged out Brian Scott for the win on Sunday at the Talladega Speedway.

As the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entered the Round of 8, there was plenty on the line as drivers kept their Sprint Cup dreams alive for the hopes of an appearance in the Championship 4 on Nov. 20.

It was a crazy race from start to finish, especially for those who witnessed Logano's improbable victory after a jack form his pit was stuck underneath his car for an entire lap.

While its time seemed good enough to qualify, it seems Logano's carjack missed out on the cut.

Here's a look at the day's standings after the race with the schedule for the upcoming races.

With the win, Logan advances while Austin Dillon, Martin Truex Jr., Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski were eliminated from the Chase.

It was a tough day for Truex as he was eliminated from the race in its early stages because his car's engine let him down with just 45 laps completed.

Arguably one of the top drivers on the course, it was an unfortunate sight to see a driver go out the way Truex did.

Keselowski also had similar trouble with his car on the day after leading for the majority of the race.

Elliott had his moments on the day and at one point held the lead. Unfortunately for Elliott, a win was the realistic way he could have qualified for the next round.

The last lap of the race got very interesting because Dillon moved up to 10th as Danny Hamlin held the fourth position, resulting in a tie going into overtime. As fuel moved closer to the empty sign on each driver's car, it became clear that it was a two-way race for first as Scott began the restart in second behind Logano.

But with some good blocking and a good push from Kevin Harvick, Logano was able to hold off Scott en route to victory, guaranteeing his spot in the Championship 4.
