Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Christian Pulisic and Luis Suarez

James DudkoOct 23, 2016

Barcelona are reportedly keen on Borussia Dortmund's teenage forward Christian Pulisic. The five-time UEFA Champions League winners are said to be scouting the 18-year-old attacker.

Barca's interest in United States international Pulisic has been reported by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sports Illustrated). Details reveal how the Catalan club is increasing its watch on Dortmund's bright young thing: "The nature of Barcelona's interest is unclear. The report claims the club has escalated its scouting of the Hershey, Pa., native."

Given their interest, Barca scouts would have been impressed by Pulisic's clutch contribution during Dortmund's recent 3-3 draw with Ingolstadt in the Bundesliga.

The American came off the bench to net his side's equaliser, per Joe Lago of Yahoo Sports.

Lago also noted how Pulisic had gone a month without any goals or assists but hadn't lost his place in the Dortmund starting XI before this weekend.

It makes sense that a young and promising, yet still raw, prospect would make a greater impact off the bench. The exuberance and daring of youth can often provide the spark teams need in crucial moments.

It also makes sense for Barcelona to be looking at another young forward for their already-loaded attacking ranks. The Liga giants have the best forward line in the game, thanks to the presence of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

However, depth behind this prolific trio hasn't always been strong. Barca tried to address the issue by signing 23-year-old Paco Alcacer from Valencia this summer. Yet with Munir El Haddadi going the other way on loan, there's still a lack of natural strikers in reserve.

Pulisic has the creative talent to fit in with the expansive, possession-based style of play Barcelona endorse. It could also be the time to start thinking about the future, with Messi and Suarez both 29.

The latter wants to stay at Barca but hasn't ruled out returning to a former club in the future.

Suarez Would Return to Ajax

Uruguayan Suarez has made Barca a better team. His form in front of goal has made sure opposing teams can't just zero in on Messi.

Fortunately for the Blaugrana, former Liverpool ace Suarez has revealed he wants to stay at the Camp Nou for the rest of his career.

However, Suarez did tell Netherlands source De Telegraaf (h/t Metro's Michael Cantillon) he wouldn't rule out a return to Ajax:

"

All my dreams came true at Barcelona and I hope to stay here for the remainder of my career. But I will have to keep playing at the highest level.

Of course, I would like to return to Ajax some day. Even if it was just to thank Ajax.

Ajax are the club that made me famous in Europe.

"

Ajax were Suarez's first club in Europe. He enjoyed terrific success under manager Martin Jol in the 2009-10 season, finishing as the top scorer in the Eredivisie.

Jol has remained an admirer, offering this praise for Suarez and his versatility back in 2013, per Chris Richards of the Daily Mirror"He can play as a number nine or a second striker. He can play on the flank as well."

This also isn't the first time Suarez has talked up the idea of going back to Amsterdam. In 2014, he confidently predicted he would be back at Ajax one day, according to Helden magazine (h/t Simon Jones of the Daily Mail): "I've always said on one day I will return at Ajax. Even if the manager doesn't want me, I'll go. For sure!"

Suarez may indeed be an Ajax player again before his career is finished. But right now, he's at the peak of his powers and good enough to help Barca win many more major prizes.

Barcelona can rest easy. When Suarez moves, the Camp Nou side will know they've got the best years from one of the world's top players.

In terms of planning for the departures of any of their star strikers, though, Barca would be wise to step up their efforts to acquire precocious attacking talents such as Pulisic.
