New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus: Winner and Reaction from WWE Raw

Mike ChiariOct 24, 2016

In a non-title preview of Sunday's Tag Team Championship match at Hell in a Cell, Cesaro and Sheamus beat New Day on Monday night on Raw.

Sheamus was able to land the pin over Big E, per WWE:

But just moments after the win, the duo was already back to bickering, via WWE:

One of the highlights of the match was a vicious uppercut that Cesaro delivered to Kofi Kingston, via WWE:

Having run through all challengers for over 400 days, New Day were presented with some intriguing new contenders for the Raw Tag Team Championships by virtue of an unorthodox decision by Raw general manager Mick Foley.

After Cesaro and Sheamus fought to a draw in their best-of-seven series, Foley allowed them to vie for a title as long as they agreed to join forces and go after the Tag Team Championships.

Although the European Superstars were reluctant to team up, they decided that the tag titles were better than no titles at all.

Even so, they showed very little chemistry leading up to Monday's match, particularly during the two weeks prior.

Kingston defeated Cesaro in a singles match two weeks ago, and during that bout Sheamus paid little attention, deciding instead to stream a Facebook Live video.

The Swiss Superman took a page out of his partner's book last week, as seen in this photo courtesy of Cesaro's Twitter account:

While the Celtic Warrior actually started the shenanigans, he was upset about his partner's lack of support, per WWE Universe:

With Sheamus distracted by Cesaro's antics, he was defeated by Big E, which set the stage for a potentially explosive situation Monday.

Cesaro and Sheamus were given a chance to get on the same page prior to their biggest match as a tandem, while New Day got an opportunity to see exactly what they were in store for at Hell in a Cell.

The teamwork and trust between Cesaro and Sheamus will be in question for as long as they are together, but there is little doubt that they are both highly talented and accomplished as singles competitors.

Cesaro is a former United States champion and previously won the Tag Team Championships with Tyson Kidd, while Sheamus is a four-time world champion, former U.S. champion and former winner of the Royal Rumble, King of the Ring and Money in the Bank.

With such an impressive resume between them, Cesaro and Sheamus enter Hell in a Cell with a fighting chance to end one of the longest Tag Team Championship reigns in WWE history.

They managed to work out their differences for at least one night Monday on Raw, and if they can somehow manage to channel that once again at Hell in a Cell, the New Day trio is perhaps in greater jeopardy than ever of losing their titles.
