Matthew Stafford Avoids Pressure, Tosses TD Pass on 4th Down vs. Rams

Kyle NewportOct 17, 2016

Given that it was a fourth-down play, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford knew he had to get a throw off and give his receiver a chance.

The result: touchdown.

On 4th-and-goal from the Los Angeles Rams' 2-yard line with just over three minutes before halftime, Stafford avoided pressure and flung a sidearm pass to the edge of the end zone. Fortunately for Detroit, 5'11" Andre Roberts was able to win a contested ball and secure the touchdown.

With that, a bold decision paid off—and the Lions tied the game at 14.
