Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Giants Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comOct 13, 2016

A couple of teams that were unbeaten early in the season and have struggled lately will meet at MetLife Stadium on Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens (3-2) visit the New York Giants (2-3) as small underdogs.

The Ravens must be happy to be playing on the road this week after losing two straight as home favorites following a 3-0 start, while the Giants have dropped three in a row overall, with the past two coming on the road as dogs against NFC North opponents.

Point spread: The Giants opened as three-point favorites; the total was 44.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Ravens can cover the spread

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh decided to fire offensive coordinator Marc Trestman after the team's latest loss, a 16-10 defeat against Washington as 3.5-point home chalk. Trestman's offense was limited to only one touchdown, and that was scored less than five minutes into the game when the Ravens got off to a quick 7-0 lead.

Marty Mornhinweg replaces Trestman, and he will get a great opportunity to help them bounce back against a New York defense that has surrendered an average of more than 25 points during its skid. Baltimore is also 4-1 both straight up and against the spread in the past five meetings with the Giants, according to the Odds Shark NFL Database.

Why the Giants can cover the spread

New York is hoping a return home will help the team turn things around, going 8-1 ATS in its last nine games after failing to cover the spread in consecutive games there. The Giants have actually yet to cover a game this season at 0-3-2 ATS, and this is the first time they are favored by less than 3.5 points at home this year.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is due for a breakout performance, and he scored his first touchdown of the season last week in a 23-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Beckham continues to be targeted a ton by quarterback Eli Manning, making it only a matter of time before he busts out.

Smart pick

The difference between these two teams right now is coaching, with Harbaugh the more proven commodity over Ben McAdoo, who is in his first year at the helm for New York.

Harbaugh made a bold move in firing Trestman, while McAdoo is still trying to figure out how to solve the problems with his team. The Giants have lost four of their last five at home though after playing consecutive games on the road, so back the Ravens here.

Betting trends

The Ravens are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five games against the Giants.

The total has gone over in seven of the Giants' last nine games at home.

The Ravens are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games after losing as a favorite.
