Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Bastian Schweinsteiger and Isco Rumours

Tom SunderlandOct 6, 2016

Manchester United outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger would be welcomed into Major League Soccer "with open arms," according to one of the company's leading figureheads. Meanwhile, manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing Real Madrid's Isco as a Wayne Rooney replacement.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber has been keeping tabs on Schweinsteiger's exile at Old Trafford and said the player would be warmly greeted if he were to move to the United States, per the Sun's Anthony Chapman:

"

Of course we follow Bastian’s situation.

He’s an old acquaintance for the United States, for example through the 2014 World Cup, when he played against the US team. He also played against the MLS All-Stars with Bayern in 2014.

We would welcome Bastian with open arms. He would be a leader for our many young players.

Manchester United manager Mourinho is yet to utilise Schweinsteiger's talents since arriving at the club's helm over the summer, and it doesn't look as though that pattern's likely to change any time soon.

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News recently described it as "inevitable" that the German would one day find his way to Major League Soccer, which would benefit greatly from his marketability:

Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard, David Villa and Steven Gerrard are just some of the veteran stars who have found their way to the United States' elite division in recent years, mostly with great success.

One who doesn't feel as though Schweinsteiger has been treated fairly during his time at Old Trafford is Manchester City midfielder and German compatriot Ilkay Gundogan, via Bleacher Report UK:

Schweinsteiger, 32, remained at Old Trafford past this summer in order to fight for his place with the Premier League giants, although Paul Pogba's record-breaking return to the club has limited his chances even more.

Blogger Liam Canning is also under the impression Schweinsteiger deserves his chance under Mourinho, although Chapman mentioned FC Dallas would be eager to sign the playmaker given the chance:

Elsewhere, Mourinho is said to be looking at Real Madrid misfit Isco as a potential replacement for captain Rooney, per Spanish newspaper AS (h/t Metro's Chris Davie).

Davie also provided quotes from Isco, who spoke to Spanish radio station Cope earlier in the week and outlined his desire to move on if he's unable to get the game time he desires in Madrid: "I’m 24, and if I don’t find a place in the starting lineup, I’d like to move. I know what I can do well, and if not here, then I’d like to be able to do it elsewhere. I’m happy in Madrid, but what footballers want is to progress, and if I can’t here, I wouldn’t have a problem in looking for an exit."

The former Malaga star would provide a youthful injection of pace for United, the very same pace Rooney appears to have lost in recent years and has little chance of rediscovering, no matter how much football he plays.

Mourinho appears to have started the 30-year-old's gradual departure from the first team after benching his captain for recent outings against Leicester City and Stoke City, with former Real charge Isco the preferred alternative.
