Tom SunderlandOct 2, 2016

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly met with Gareth Bale's agent following speculation the Welshman "is not enjoying the limelight at Real Madrid." Meanwhile, the Red Devils have scouted Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol (h/t Sport Witness' Dipesh Agarwal), Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, met with Mourinho and United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to discuss the move.

It's also mentioned that Adidas are "endorsing Bale's move" to Old Trafford, despite the fact they provide shirt sponsors for both United and Real, but Los Blancos are keen to extend the Wales international's stay in Madrid.

Real are joint top of La Liga after stumbling to a 1-1 draw at home to Eibar on Sunday, where Bale scored his 50th league goal for Los Merengues, via Sky Sports La Liga:

United have frequently featured as the most fervently linked Premier League club when it comes to bringing Bale back to the Premier League, with the Welshman now enjoying his fourth campaign in Spain's capital.

By and large, the stereotype is that British players struggle to thrive in Europe's more exotic divisions, but Bale has gone about proving that theory as wide of the mark, per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan:

Real will most likely look to retain Bale's services for as long as possible given his success thus far at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, but rumours of a return closer to home have been incessant since his 2013 move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Diario Gol also added Bale will be seeking an annual salary of €20 million (£17.4 million), equal to around £335,000 per week, and United might be one of the few clubs able to meet such high demands.

Elsewhere, Benfica left-back Grimaldo is said to be attracting United's interest, and the Red Devils were reportedly in attendance as the defender scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over Feirense.

That's according to Oliver Todd of MailOnline, who added Grimaldo has a £51 million buyout clause, and Metro's Primeira Liga expert Jan Hagen recently stated his major impression of the Spaniard:

Todd added Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has also been to watch the former Barcelona academy member, with whom he is already familiar after their time at the Camp Nou.

Mourinho already has a fine left-back at his disposal in the shape of England international Luke Shaw, but Grimaldo, 21, could provide a promising deputy's presence at Old Trafford.
