Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Florentin Pogba and Santi Cazorla

Tom SunderlandOct 2, 2016

Arsenal may have their chance at recruiting a Pogba of their own after Saint-Etienne defender Florentin, brother of Manchester United's Paul, confessed his love for the Gunners. Meanwhile, Santi Cazorla has revealed he's yet to receive a new contract offer.

Speaking to French television programme Telefoot (h/t Daily Star's Colin Harvey), Pogba confirmed his desire to one day feature in the Premier League, and Arsenal happens to be the centre-back's club of choice.

The 26-year-old said, "Playing in the Premier League is a childhood dream of mine. I had opportunities this summer. I love Arsenal!"

Mailsport's Mike Keegan backed up Pogba's claims of Premier League interest over the summer after noting a proposed move to England fell through close to the transfer deadline:

The older Pogba brother could follow sibling Paul to the English top flight just months after he broke the world transfer record with his £89 million return to Manchester United, although Arsenal may not have need of his talents.

Manager Arsene Wenger recruited Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding to reinforce his options in central defence, and football writer Liam Canning noted the improvements as a result were vast:

Elsewhere, Cazorla has revealed Arsenal are yet to offer him an extension on his current contract, which is poised to expire at the end of this season.

The playmaker spoke to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser and admitted he could still become a free agent at the end of the campaign unless the north Londoners arise with a new deal (h/t MailOnline's Rory O'Callaghan).

Cazorla said: "No, I don't have any news from the club [regarding a new contract]. My focus now is on playing and to be able to enjoy playing football following a season when I had lots of [injury] problems."

The Spain international turns 32 in December, but Squawka highlighted Cazorla's prominence in the recent UEFA Champions League win over Basel, which suggested he's got plenty of energy left to offer:

Arsenal have more competition in central midfield than has been the case for some time, with Granit Xhaka arriving in an engine room which already has Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny for competition.

The Gunners have been known to leave contract negotiations until late in their lifespan in the past, but fans of Cazorla may be wary of the possibility their ageing star will be allowed to leave for nought in 2017.
