Rollins Injured at Clash of Champions
Monday, Sept. 26
Rollins lost to Kevin Owens on Sunday night at Clash of Champions in a match for the WWE Universal Championship. Following the match, Rollins received an ovation from the crowd in Indianapolis. During the ovation, the former world champion was moving gingerly and holding his right side, as WWE shared on Twitter:
WWE shared a clip of Rollins visiting a local medical facility to have his abdomen examined:
The company also tweeted a photo of his X-ray:
Rollins returned to the ring four months ago after missing roughly six months because of a torn ACL and MCL. He picked up where he left off, winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank in June.
While he quickly lost the belt to Dean Ambrose, Rollins has continued to hang around the title picture, especially after a shoulder injury forced Finn Balor to surrender the Universal Championship.
WWE is seemingly positioning Rollins to become a babyface on the back of Clash of Champions. Triple H has yet to explain why he helped Owens win the universal title on Raw in August, and a video from after Clash of Champions seemed to indicate Triple H and Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon are working together to thwart their onetime protege:
A rib injury doesn't necessarily mean the story will meet an abrupt end.
Reigns' nose injury left him out for a significant chunk of the buildup to April's WrestleMania 32. But that did nothing to alter WWE's plans, and Reigns beat Triple H in the main event.
As long as Rollins doesn't miss several months of in-ring action, his feud with Owens should continue unabated.
