Dee Gordon Hits Leadoff Home Run After Jose Fernandez Pregame Tribute

It doesn't matter whether you're a Miami Marlins fan, you're a New York Mets fan or you don't like sports at all. This was a special moment for all of us. 

Dee Gordon's home run to lead off Monday night's game against the Mets was one of those sports moments you'll never forget. It occurred right after the Marlins held a pregame tribute on the mound for Jose Fernandez, who was tragically killed Sunday in a boating accident.

One day after the 10-year anniversary of Steve Gleason's blocked punt for the New Orleans Saints after Hurricane Katrina, the sports world received another incredible moment that went far beyond athletic competition.

Gordon's tears as he jogged around the bases had nothing to do with athletic achievement, nor did the embraces he received in the dugout from his teammates. This was all about love and mourning for his fallen teammate.

There aren't many words that can describe what happened the moment Gordon homered to right field. All we can say is "wow."

After the Marlins' 7-3 win over the Mets, fans chanted "Jose! Jose! Jose!" to pay tribute to the late pitcher, per WPLG's Will Manso.
