Tim Tebow's UFC Potential Discussed by Former Heavyweight Brendan Schaub
Tim Tebow has been exploring new athletic ventures, and one former UFC fighter believes the former Heisman Trophy winner could have excelled in the Octagon if he had committed to a career in mixed martial arts.
Appearing on TMZ Sports on Wednesday, retired MMA fighter Brendan Schaub heaped praise on Tebow's athletic capabilities.
"If Tim decided when he was younger to pursue the UFC, he'd be the heavyweight champion of the world," Schaub said. "With his skill set and his mindset, I don't know anyone—this is including in the UFC—who has a tougher mindset than Tim Tebow."
However, that's all hypothetical.
In reality, Tebow is attempting to make a name for himself as a baseball player after the New York Mets signed him to a minor league contract Sept. 8.
"This isn't a publicity stunt, and it's definitely not for money," he told Bleacher Report's Jacob Shafer. "This is a pay cut for me to do this. I understand how hard this is and that a lot of people think it's impossible. But [I am] passionate about the game of baseball."
Given the refinement his game needs at the plate and in the field, Tebow appears to be facing long odds when it comes to making good on his dreams of becoming a contributor at the major league level.
