UFC: Hoping That Marriage Will Turn Fedor Around?

Dorothy WillisOct 4, 2009

Mike Chiappetta, my personal favorite MMA reporter, revealed the news today that Fedor Emelianenko has married for the second time in The Russian Orthodox Church in the small town of Stary Oskol where he lives. His first wife Oksana and he divorced in 2006 and now he has wed his hometown sweetheart.

Weddings, family, children, and pets are my favorite things in life. I drive people crazy by endlessly asking about those subjects. Call it nosiness or me being a sentimental old fool, neither description bothers me.

So while others interested in MMA are wondering about the impact getting married will have on Feodor's upcoming fight with Brett "the Grim Reaper" Rogers. I am left wishing I could see the wedding pictures from the first and second ceremonies, as well as all the juicy details concerning each.

Dana White, of course, may be on Mike's side of the fence and be wondering, nay, hoping, that marriage will in some way change the course of history and be able to pick Fedor up on the rebound should he fail to beat Rogers when they meet in their upcoming Nov. 7 fight.

It is possible that a recent change in marital status could rattle Fedor's resolve to stay with Strikeforce and M-1, although I think it is doubtful that he will reconsider joining the UFC should he lose the fight.

Hopefully, Marina will support her man in his fighting career and be sure that he continues to train with as much passion as before. I like to consider marriage a stabilizing force for a fighter who no longer feels the need to search for someone to complete him.

(Yes, I am a big romantic and still hope that GSP will call me asking to be fixed up with one of our mutual female fans whom I have kept tabs on simply for that purpose.)

Having met Fedor's mother, whom looks like a lovely woman whom I would enjoy visiting with someday (even though it was via video the first time I "met" her), I am now very hopeful about likewise "meeting" Marina soon.

I don't know how much it helps to "meet" the family of the fighters I so admire, it is something I enjoy very much. Whether it gives any insight into the fighter or not, it offers a pleasant pastime to an old woman like myself, who feels like she "knows" the people she meets on the Internet.

My take on Fedor and Marina's wedding is that it will make them both stronger, so don't count your chickens Dana, I think Fedor still has his ducks in a row.
