Los Angeles Rams safety T.J. McDonald has been charged with a non-alcohol-related DUI stemming from his arrest on May 10, according to TMZ Sports

The Orange County Register's Rich Hammond reported McDonald was formally charged with one count of driving under the influence of drugs and faces maximum penalties of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

McDonald was arrested in May after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a parked car. He was subsequently booked on a misdemeanor DUI charge, but police confirmed that McDonald was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Citing law enforcement sources, TMZ reported McDonald may have been under the influence of medication when he struck the parked car.

According to Hammond, McDonald is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 7 at the Van Nuys courthouse.

A four-year veteran, McDonald has served as one of the Rams' starting safeties since was selected in the third round of the 2013 draft. In Los Angeles' 28-0 Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, McDonald logged eight tackles.
