Monday’s episode of WWE Raw featured the announcement that Kevin Owens would defend the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view on Sept. 25.

Later in the night, Roman Reigns interjected himself into the main event scene and earned himself a match next week against Owens. If Reigns wins, he will be added to the Universal title match at this month’s PPV.

Here are the best booking options for next week’s Raw match between Owens and Reigns.

Jericho Costs Reigns the Win

Reigns’ positioning to close Raw clearly indicates his time in the doghouse following a wellness policy violation is over, but he should not beat Owens next week to earn a spot in the Clash of Champions main event.

Instead of forcing another participant into the Rollins vs. Owens matchup, Reigns should lose his bout against Owens next week when Chris Jericho gets involved and helps his friend win the match.

Reigns speared Jericho to close Raw, and allowing Jericho to get involved next Monday would help set up a secondary match at Clash of Champions between the two men. With a thin Raw roster, adding a secondary battle like Jericho vs. Reigns would make for a deeper card.

Once Reigns dispatches Jericho at the next PPV, though, WWE Creative can go back to shoving Reigns down the throats of the WWE Universe.

Reigns’ Win Makes Him the Fall Guy

If WWE officials are absolutely sold on adding Reigns to the Clash of Champions Universal Championship matchup, then Reigns should be the one taking the pinfall loss to Owens at the PPV.

As a heel, taking losses is not a huge deal for Owens. While losing a matchup to Reigns this quickly into Owens' title reign isn’t ideal, it would be the step back needed to ensure he takes two steps forward when he pins Reigns clean at the next PPV.

Not only would Reigns winning on next week’s Raw ensure Owens would successfully retain at Clash of Champions, but it would also give WWE Creative a way to protect Rollins when it’s Reigns who takes the clean loss.

If Reigns makes it a Triple Threat match at the Raw PPV, he will simply be there to lose.
