Cancer and Sports Part 8 Of Many

Judy DavidsonOct 4, 2009

Jeff and Joshua during a healthy moment at the Sixers last year when we scored a 3 pointer, since they have yet to attend an Iggles game together, and Josh has been the designated caretaker while Jeff is ill (Marti Joy and Dan live in CT) it seems right to include Josh in today's blog.

We have some Flyers pre season to deal with and then there is the illusive golf game with Bill Giles - best postponed til spring for a health Jeff (post surgery).  I am hopeful that the Phillies do win this one for The Gipper (Jeff) and go the distance as he goes the distance.  As long as there is a game to watch and he can lift his head, it will be on (at  least his Blackberry).

It is football Sunday and we have 7 pools between us.  This week Josh and I are setting our line ups without Dad's "expert" advice.  Adjustments must be made and I feel guilty for all the Sundays I bitched, moaned and groaned about Jeff's interference and how it cost me a fantasy match or made me move down the Evil Monkey  (yes the league's name) pick 'em pool leader board.

I doubt (for now, anyway) that I will moan and groan with Jeff's expert advice, unsolicited as it may be, because for the time being, I miss it.  The nurse called at 7:30 to let me know that he had his Blackberry in hand checking college scores and his 3 fantasy matches.  I am looking forward to seeing him perk up a little if his QBs do well and AP works in  one league for Jeff and another for Josh.  I did not get AP so will see Marion Barber is healthy and if TO catches a ball today.  TO is a source of pure kicks and giggles for Jeff, now that he plays for another team ( and I drafted him)!

Fantasy football is not a solitary activity in our home - it is a group project.  We follow the games as a family- at home or at the caféToday we will follow the games in a hospital room - as a family with cancer.  We are all indeed stricken with this disease and every side effect of the chemo.  Eagles are on a bye but we have players on all the teams to yell at (or wimper at) but we will be a family at the hospital, watching the games together as always on a Sunday.  Thanks to all of you for your prayers, we sure need and appreciate each and every one!
