Manchester United Transfer News: Fresh Red Devils Rumours Ahead of Winter Window

Tom SunderlandSep 4, 2016

Manchester United's hopes of bringing Gareth Bale back to the Premier League look to have ended following reports he's set to sign an extension at Real Madrid. Meanwhile, the Red Devils will reportedly look to break the world transfer record again with a move for Antoine Griezmann.

Neil Fissler of the Sunday Express reported United look likely to miss out on Bale, who may spend the rest of his playing days at the Santiago Bernabeu after supposedly agreeing a "six-year deal worth around £350,000 [per] week."

Those figures mean the Wales ace could earn a whopping £91 million over the course of the contract and represent a significant increase from his current £300,000-per-week earnings.

Bale helped lead Wales to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016 over the summer, but he's already back to his best at club level and has enjoyed a bright start to the 2016-17 season.

Cristiano Ronaldo will turn 32 before the end of the campaign, but Bale, 27, should only just be entering his prime playing years, and there's a chance Los Blancos have yet to see the best of his ability.

The Spanish giants have reportedly moved to secure his loyalties for the long term, and Wales manager Chris Coleman has hinted at there being more room for improvement, per Goal's Jamie Smith:

"

Gareth scored inside 75 seconds of Real's first game of the season, but I never get surprised by him. I know he's capable of almost anything and I think Madrid are very excited about the future with 'Baleo'.

They recognise that they've got someone who's going to be there for a while and someone who is capable of winning everything. He's getting better and better still. Along with that incredible ability, he's got that first-class mentality as well. It's a winning formula for Real Madrid and for Wales and I think he will have another good season.

"

News of a six-year deal may not go down well with United, one of the most prominent Premier League outfits linked with the player since his exit from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Elsewhere, Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho has been given "the green light" to move ahead with a world-record bid to sign Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann next summer, per the Sun on Sunday's Gary Stonehouse.

The article states the player is seen as a long-term replacement for captain Wayne Rooney. Bleacher Report's Dean Jones previously reported on United's interest in the player:

Not long has passed since the English titans smashed the transfer record with their £89.3 million move to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, but it's suggested France team-mate Griezmann would cost a new record sum.

Los Rojiblancos have been happy to see the former Real Sociedad talisman thrive since moving to Madrid in 2014, and Squawka highlighted how his international form has also picked up:

Rooney turns 31 in October, and Griezmann's addition would represent a far more youthful injection to the squad, with the United captain having slowed considerably in his past few seasons at the Theatre of Dreams.

Atleti are sure to prove tough negotiators in any deal, especially when one considers Griezmann is contracted at the Vicente Calderon until 2021, but United's financial resources may give them the means for a deal.
