Bears Among Multiple Teams Targeting Sitton

Sunday, Sept. 4

ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, citing sources, reported that the Chicago Bears will meet with Sitton first. Schefter added that the New Orleans Saints could be next.

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson previously reported the amount of teams that want to talk to Sitton is in the "double digits."

Packers Had Sitton on Trade Block

Saturday, Sept. 3

ESPN's Rob Demovsky originally reported Green Bay planned to cut Sitton provided it couldn't find a trade partner, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed the Packers' decision to part ways with the three-time Pro Bowler.

Sitton Would Be Dependable Veteran Signing

The 30-year-old Sitton has started 108 of a possible 110 games for the Packers since the beginning of the 2009 campaign.

Per Mike Renner of Pro Football Focus, he has been especially good as a pass-blocker in recent seasons:

The 2008 fourth-round pick out of Central Florida has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two years, and every indication was that he was a lock to occupy the left guard spot for Green Bay once again in 2016.

The fact that Sitton was set to make $6.15 million in 2016, according to Spotrac, may have factored into the decision to cut ties, but such a huge and unexpected shake-up so close to the start of the regular season could provide the Green Bay offense with some major challenges.

Sitton may no longer be in green and gold, but considering how impressive his resume is, it shouldn't be long before another team scoops him up in free agency.
